Agricultural Company of the Bologna hills
The company is located in the municipality of Sasso Marconi
, just outside the city of Bologna within the so-called area "a
Denominazione di Origine Controllata" COLLI BOLOGNESI (controlled
named area Bologna Hills) and has been working in this market
from more than 25 years. The vineyard surface is 17,3 hectares,
all of which are directly managed.
The vineyards
The vineyards are located inside the municipality of Sasso Marconi , in three
separate fields:
6,9
hectares in the area of Tignano, the field is called "I
prati",
within the sub-area Colline Marconiane (Marconian Hills) at
225 m. above sea level.
5,3
hectares in the area of Montechiaro, the fields are called "Il
casetto" and "I
cumi", within the sub-area Colline Marconiane (Marconian Hills),
at 385 m. above sea level.
5,1
hectares in the area of San Lorenzo at Sasso Marconi, the
field is called “Isola”, near the river Reno, at 100
m above sea level, where the cellar is located, too.
Since the vineyards are located at different elevations, they
will have different sun exposure and soil conditions; hence, the
grapes will be different within the same species of vine. This
aids to select the most interesting product every year at the cellar.
The plant density varies from 2000 plants per hectare for the
oldest vineyards to greater than 4000 per hectare for the most
recent ones. The average yield in grapes per hectare is approx.
9 Tons; in some vineyards it is even less thanks to the summer
thinning.
The variety of vineyards grown are: Chardonnay, Pinot, Pignoletto,
Sauvignon, Cabernet, Merlot and Barbera, all of which are registered
in the books of the DOC Colli Bolognesi and DOC Colli
Bolognesi Classico.
The cellar
Grapes
are all picked by hand and wine is made inside the Company's cellar
which has all the modern facilities for temperature control and
cold maceration, a retting pit, small wooden butts and pressure
cookers for fermentation, grape withering, and fining inside small
wooden butts.
The wine expert who is in charge for the cellar is
Mr. Giovanni Fraulini.

on each bottle displaying the harvest year, some features of the
wine, main cellar operations and the content of sulphur dioxide
as certified by the analyses made by the Chamber of Commerce. Although
not compulsory, we wish to mention the total content of SO2 in
the label as it enriches the information given to the consumer
and proves the reduced content of preserving additives, thus guaranteeing
the quality of our product.
